Panel Session 9 - Transformational adaptation: Why, when and how? — YRD
10:30AM - 12:00PM
Meeting Room 6
Chair: Mark Howden

Major, purposeful action often resulting in significant changes to structures and functions, known as transformational adaptation, has been already implemented in some cases in order to adapt to climate change. There is the expectation that it will increasingly be needed. Unlike incremental adaptation, far less is understood about why, when and how transformational adaptation is required and deemed an appropriate option for consideration and action. The panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities related to decision making and active responses made at the transformational scale from an academic, industry and community perspective. Examples will be drawn from both coastal and agricultural regions within Australia.
